Patty Griffin’s Downtown Church

Christianity Today interviewed Patty Griffin and the making of her new album Downtown Church. Here’s a snippet:

There were certain words and phrases that I just had trouble singing. And I didn’t want to sing them.

Like “All Creatures of Our God and King”?

Right. That was one. I didn’t want to sing “King.” It bothered me. And Buddy [Miller] made me do it. I mean, we even argued about it. And in the end he won, and now I’m glad he did. It’s just a word. I still don’t feel entirely comfortable with it, but I can appreciate the impetus behind it.
